felt like the only human around for miles, absolute solitude. And the sky at night was the clearest I have ever experienced. The only sound was the odd animal brushing past the tent. You will need a 4x4 but they advise this at ranger station.

Be aware that the sign is obscured by brush when approaching from the south. Also, the road in is not for the faint of heart, so make sure you have a good, high-clearance vehicle, and you're not afraid to use it. I thought my Subaru would fair just fine, but although we made it, we lost our power steering along the way, and probably about 2 years off my life! While coming from the south challenges you with one or two difficult spots, coming from the north is much more treturous.

The definition of "remote!" Beautiful views all around. The night sky was very dark, allowing for clear viewing of the Milky Way, as well as passing satellites.
